ANOTHER HURDLE

As my recent life has been, both Marley and I have yet another hurdle to overcome. Marley had a stiff left hip last week after the agility trial. A couple of days of rest and Rimadyl and she's good. Back to her nightly treadmill sessions. Back to some short agility sequences in the yard.

I started having severe pain in my right hip after the agility trial. I trudged along until I couldn't do it anymore. Finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a hip flexor muscle strain. Steroids, NSAIDS, heat and rest and I should be fine.

Marley and I were entered in an agility trial in 2 weeks but I pulled her from it. I need to be on my game to run her in USDAA.

Molly is back to her nightly patrols. Some nights she's gone for 4-6 hours. I would love to put a GPS on her and track where she goes.

Missy is ready for me to take her in for a summer cut. She's already miserable in March.

Kalea-Kate is a little rock star in her beginner agility class. She loves it! She's already doing several obstacles totally off leash. Her momma needs to work with her on her stays and comes! She starts beginner obedience classes tomorrow night. She's a hoot to work!

RUNNING FOR GRANDMA

I'm sure most of my friends know how hard my mom's death has been on me. It has affected every aspect of my life. I still have days that I don't want to get up but my girls keep me going. I have had some great friends that have stood by me.

It was important to me after my mom died that all 3 of my girls got to go to the funeral home and see and smell her one last time. I thought that would help them with losing her.

Marley and I just haven't clicked on the agility course in months. I was talking to a friend at an agility trial in Holly Springs last month. I asked her to watch us run and tell me what she thought. Marley has been real sluggish and distracted on the course. She watched us and then told me she thinks Marley is missing my mom and I should talk to Marley about my mom. My mom used to feed Marley snacks at nite and let her in and out of the house all nite long when we were at their house. They had a special bond.

So I did right before our last run. Just told Marley how much her Grandma loved her. On the way home from that trial, Marley rode in the floor board of the passenger side of the van just like she always did..she loved to ride under my mom's feet. She hadn't done that since my mom died.

So this weekend at the agility trial, I spoke to Marley before each of her runs about how proud her Grandma was of her and how much she loved her. About how she loved seeing Marley run agility. Then she got a kiss and a hug from Grandma. Marley was wonderful this weekend. She was so happy on the agility course. She qualified half of her runs and earned her Open Standard Agility Title.

Hoping for more great trials with Marley and hope my mom is proud of us!
